Expecting Model are you having your first baby with someone who has children from a previous relationship? Might you be on your next pregnancy extending your family with a different partner?

In so much as?the traditional, today?s trending family unit is made up of different components, from divorced families, adopted children, ?single parents to lifestyle; ?the sum of which equal big love!

For the step-mom:?Regardless of the relationship you have with your partner?s children you may want to consider allowing your partner alone time with the kids for the initial announcement of your pregnancy.? Although you may have spoken about having a baby with your extended family and its not a surprise, it will however be a bit of a shock when the kids actually here the words ?we are having a baby.? ?Dependent of their temperament, they need to be allowed the opportunity to either scream in horror or glee without worrying about hurting your feelings. ?This is new to them as well and although they may not even really comprehend what having another baby means they should have a space to process.

For the Mom:?Your role is to announce to your child(ren) that a new baby is on the way (same reasoning as above applies). That they are going to be a big brother or sister and that that?s a great role!

Be mindful of the children, but don?t stop or get derailed from growing your family. They will adjust. Having a second child in the home is always a little different from the first.? Even if it?s your first pregnancy, the role of mom is a familiar one to you as you have had some experience as a Step-Mom. ?Always be mindful of maintaining a healthy outlook. ?The family will follow your lead. ?You a creating life and this new baby will be the little bow binding everyone together.

In each scenario and depending on the kids ages, they will need to verbally walk through their feelings with the grownups. Ask them questions about how they think they will be affected. Encourage them to think about what roles they can take in helping baby grow and learn. Day dream with them and allow room for them to express what the future will hold and keep positive. This is an exciting time for everyone.? There is so much promise when a baby is on the way. Dream big and love loud with your growing family.? You can have it all.
